Zach Kautter, Founder & CEO

PK Productions began the way most big dreams do, with a simple question.

“What if we just did it ourselves?”

The idea first sparked the summer before my senior year of college, when I realized I didn’t want to wait for permission to create something meaningful. Surrounded by friends just as hungry to make bold work, I started building a company that could give young artists a platform to lead.

Now, just one year later, we’re looking to produce an Off-Broadway show.

In that time, PK Productions has grown from late-night rehearsals and scribbled to-do lists into a nonprofit that has provided creative opportunities to over 50 emerging artists. This summer, we’re producing Off-Broadway, our most ambitious project yet.

At the center of everything I do is my grandmother, Pat Kautter (PK). She was the first person to show me the magic of storytelling; how it can connect us, challenge us, and remind us we’re not alone. Her belief in the power of art—and in me—is the reason this company exists.

This work is built on community. It’s long hours, group chats, missed trains, and the kind of joy that comes from doing something that once felt impossible. And it only happens because of people like you.

Thank you for believing in the next generation of storytellers.

We carry that belief into everything we do.

Mimi Brown, Artistic Director

Four years ago, I left my hometown of St. Louis, Missouri, and embarked on a cross-country road trip that would completely alter the course of my life.

My senior year of high school, I found myself in a creative rut. I’d spent my life engaging with the arts in any way I could, but now was tasked with the decision of a lifetime: choose just one path forward. But, on this trip, I visited Boston for the very first time. There, in the February snow, I saw students trekking from building to building, clutching canvases and musical instruments and notebooks and the hands of friends, sometimes all at once. It was then, in my dad’s pickup truck, that I knew that I didn’t want to choose. I wanted to be here, to learn to be an artist who can do everything.

When I joined Zach at PK Productions, I made it my mission to make this company a home for creatives who want just that — a space where they can do everything. Now, well into our second summer of late nights, caffeinated mornings, and phone calls taken on the way to our day jobs, I can confidently say that PK Productions has provided not only a safe space for our team of young artists to grow creatively, but a community in which the possibilities truly feel limitless. This team leads with passion and grit, yes, but what is most clear to me is how much they love what they do - and how much they love each other.

Your support takes us from “What if” to “What’s Next,” breaking down barriers that young artists so often face as they fight to make their voices heard. This summer, as we take on our two most ambitious projects to date, we are so grateful for your unwavering belief in the next generation of storytellers.

Thank you for making it possible for girls like me to do — and be — everything. We couldn’t do it without you.
